Surfactants

Surfactants are detergent substances that reduce the surface tension of water, allowing the fiber and dirt to be better wetted. They break down the dirt into tiny particles so that it can be washed away and at the same time prevent the dirt from being redeposited. Industrially produced surfactants are biodegradable and are used in detergents.
